YouTuber Subjects Galaxy Z Fold 7 to Extreme Durability Test by Folding and Unfolding it 200,000 Times During Live Stream
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is currently undergoing an extreme durability test by South Korean tech YouTuber, Tech-it. The test, which is being livestreamed on Tech-it's YouTube channel, has reached an impressive milestone of 137,000 fold-unfold cycles.
At 6,000 cycles, the phone suffered a reboot error, but it resumed functioning normally after the issue was addressed. At 46,000 cycles, a slight creaking sound was noticed from the hinge, but the phone continued to work without any major issues. The inner display remained unblemished up to and beyond 100,000 folds, with only a slight crackling sound reported when opening and closing the device.
As the test progressed, a slight crack in the screen became more noticeable, but the display continued to render colours correctly, and touch sensitivity remained intact. At 137,000 folds, an "unidentified liquid" began to leak from the hinge, but the phone remained fully functional.
This manual fold test, unlike controlled lab tests, provides a realistic look at how repeated folding affects the phone over time. Samsung reinforced the Fold 7 with a 50% thicker Ultra Thin Glass, a new high-elastic adhesive offering four times better recovery, and a titanium plate backing the screen to improve durability against such stress.
Samsung claims the Galaxy Z Fold 7 can withstand 500,000 folds, equating to approximately 27 years of daily usage, assuming 50 folds a day. The current status of the test supports Samsung's claims, as the device shows excellent durability with only minor cosmetic changes and no loss of function.
It's important to note that the test is not representative of everyday use, as it involves several thousand folds consecutively. The test is still ongoing, and developments are being marked as they go.
This durability test offers valuable insights into the real-world performance of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, providing users with a better understanding of the phone's durability and its ability to withstand the rigours of daily use. For those considering investing in a foldable phone, this test provides a realistic perspective on the Galaxy Z Fold 7's durability, reinforcing Samsung's claims of significantly improved durability for this model compared to previous foldables.
