Your upcoming Switch 2 pre-order deserves the dbrand Killswitch Case as its perfect companion.

Rewritten Article:

Sweet Baby Jesus, Thursday's Switch 2 pre-orders were a chaotic, unforgiving nightmare! Every retailer that dared to offer the Switch 2 for pre-order at midnight struggled to handle the traffic or accurately reflect pre-order status. My Target pre-order somehow went through in the morning, with a confirmation email arriving after I'd given up attempting to click the unresponsive Checkout button and drifted off to sleep.

GameStop's site, for the love of all things sacred, completely imploded upon the 11 AM ET pre-order launch.

Unforeseen Circumstances Lead to Activation of Kill Switch in Device

If you've somehow managed to obtain a pre-order (or you've pinned your hopes on Nintendo's mysterious email system), it's high time to ponder accessories. And while there's no shortage of JoyCons, Pro Controllers, Piranha Plant cameras, and JoyCon wheels to buy, there is one must-have item that should be at the top of your list: protection for your new system.

Usually, I'm not a fan of cases – I like to trust (albeit misguidedly) in the engineering prowess of a company. But when dbrand unleashed their Killswitch line in 2022, my faith was shattered. The Steam Deck version of the Killswitch was so remarkable that The Verge couldn’t help but declare it the one accessory everyone should buy. And I can see why! The grips are textured and tactile, the case provides military-level drop protection, and the cover shields your screen like a fortress on the battlefield.

Enhanced Comfort Grip Design

For the new Switch 2 edition, dbrand has taken their Killswitch game to another level.

First and foremost, despite the name, the Switch 2 Killswitch will not murder your Switch. In fact, the drop-protection provided by the case should keep it safe from all but the most catastrophic incidents. What's even better is that the case is modular, so your JoyCons can still be detached like the hinges on a second-hand Cadillac.

The JoyCon covers, you ask? Nothing short of heaven-sent. They're textured, improve ergonomics, and make holding the Switch 2 feel more like holding a Steam Deck – if you can actually manage to find a Steam Deck these days.

The Switch 2 Killswitch also features a USB docking system that can be used as a display stand for your Switch 2. I can't say I'm entirely on board with this, but I appreciate that it gives people more options for playing and charging their device simultaneously.

Like the Steam Deck version, the Switch 2 Killswitch boasts a travel cover. The oddly clear cover is compatible with the included game card holder – here's to hoping that the rumors of physical game cartridges costing an arm and a leg were nothing but fantasy. Given that digital-only games are set to become more common than Zuckerman's walking aids, those nifty game carts will be more ubiquitous than you might think. On a positive note, the company's design is clever and efficient – everything I need in life.

Finally, the Switch 2 Killswitch includes rubberized joystick covers. They're molded and nubbly, ensuring precision control even when you're deep in a Mario Kart tournament and your hands are sweaty from nerves.

Pricing for the Switch 2 Killswitch has yet to be announced, but I'd wager it'll be in the $70-$100 range, in line with the pricing of their other Killswitch offerings. For now, you can shell out $3 to secure early access for the June launch. That $3 will be credited toward your purchase (or you can request a refund if you change your mind).

Keep an eye out for additional products, as dbrand plans to release a Prism 2.0 screen protector and an assortment of skins to coincide with the June 5 launch. The Prism 2.0 screen protector promises to be an idiot-proof option for those of us who struggle with even the simplest tasks, such as applying glass protectors without shattering them into a million, useless pieces. As for the skins, no pricing details have been revealed yet, but you can register your email to get notified when they're available. Stay frosty, folks!
