Winning Projects of $50,000 RTX Remix Mod Contest Unveiled: Get Hold of the RTX Mods Instantly
NVIDIA's RTX Remix Mod Contest, held in partnership with ModDB, has come to a thrilling conclusion, with several outstanding entries taking home impressive cash prizes. The contest, which aimed to encourage modders to reimagine the graphics of classic PC games using NVIDIA's cutting-edge path tracing technology, attracted over 24 submissions and garnered over 2 million downloads within the modding community.
Painkiller RTX Remix Takes the Top Spot
The grand prize went to Merry Pencil Studios for their Painkiller RTX Remix mod. This remastered version of the popular 2004 first-person shooter was praised for its stunning asset work, use of lighting, and lifelike materials. Merry Pencil Studios walked away with a total of $40,000 in cash prizes, having won the Best Overall RTX Remix Mod category, the Most Complete RTX Mod category, and the Best Use Of RTX In A Mod category.
I-Ninja Remixed Shines in Path-Traced Mod Category
In the Path-Traced Mod category, I-Ninja Remixed, a remaster of the 2003 platformer I-Ninja, stood out. The judges enjoyed visiting various locales in I-Ninja Remixed, such as Jungle Falls and Bomb Bay, due to the remastered content. Path tracing, a technique commonly used in animated movies but rare in cartoony games, was used in I-Ninja Remixed to illuminate the vivid and fantastical environments.
Call of Duty 2 RTX Remix of Carentan Wins Community Choice
Call of Duty 2 RTX Remix of Carentan, a remaster of the multiplayer mode of Call of Duty 2, was the winner of the Community Choice RTX Mod category. This remaster features a full day-night cycle with dynamic lighting, scenery upgrades, and enhanced player characters using photo scanning real World War 2 combat clothing and artifacts via a process called photogrammetry. The community-voted $10,000 cash prize and 6 months of GeForce NOW Ultimate were awarded to tadpole3159, the lead artist at an acclaimed British game development studio, who worked on this project.
Modders Gain More Control with RTX Remix
NVIDIA RTX Remix, a modding platform for RTX AI PCs, offers modders the kind of control professional studio artists are used to. Modders can tune the look of particles, their physics simulation, and even their turbulence. Additionally, RTX Remix modders will soon be able to create brand new particles that match the look of those found in modern titles, as path-traced particles, which cast realistic light and are reflected in the world, are coming to RTX Remix in September.
Modding Community Continues to Grow and Innovate
The modding community has grown and innovated throughout the contest, with RTX Remix community members recently creating an Adobe Substance plugin, a tool to automatically generate emissive maps, and expanding RTX Remix title compatibility to over 165 games. Modders have also been working on over 100 RTX Remix mods for games like Half-Life 2, Need for Speed Underground, Portal 2, Deus Ex, and more.
The NVIDIA RTX Remix Mod Contest has shown the potential of this technology to breathe new life into classic games, and we can't wait to see what the modding community comes up with next.
