WhatsApp's New Incognito Mode Protects AI Chatbot Interactions
Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, is addressing privacy concerns surrounding AI chatbots like ChatGPT with a new feature called Incognito Mode. This mode, similar to private browsing in web browsers, ensures that messages are temporary and not used to train AI or improve personalisation.
Currently in development and expected to roll out in the coming weeks, Incognito Mode is designed to give users more control over their interactions with AI assistants. Once enabled, the feature deletes all messages once the session ends, much like private browsing in web browsers.
The feature is already being tested in the latest Android beta version of WhatsApp Web. Users can interact freely with the Meta AI chatbot without worrying about data retention or reuse. Upon launch, users will have the option to make the chatbot feel more like a personal assistant or choose the 'zero memory' option, overriding Meta AI's memory function and ignoring any instructions to remember preferences during an incognito session.
The development of Incognito Mode at WhatsApp is a significant step towards addressing privacy concerns in AI messaging tools. While the specific team responsible for this feature is not publicly known, the company's commitment to user privacy is evident. With this new feature, users can enjoy a more private and secure experience when interacting with AI assistants.
