In the world of electric vehicles (EVs), June 2025 saw a flurry of activity in China, with several manufacturers achieving record-high deliveries. However, a dip in insurance registrations was observed for some major brands during the week of July 7-13.

Record-Breaking Deliveries

Leapmotor delivered 48,006 vehicles in June, marking the second consecutive month of record-high deliveries. The company's X (Twitter) profile also began delivering the YU7, its first electric SUV, on July 6. The YU7 received 200,000 firm orders within the first three minutes of sales and over 240,000 locked-in orders within 18 hours.

Nio Inc also had a successful June, delivering 24,925 vehicles, marking a new high for this year and the second-highest on record. Nio's core brand saw a 3.6% drop in insurance registrations, from 2,500 to 2,410 units, but this decline was likely short-term and not reflective of reduced overall sales for the company.

Tesla China sold 71,599 vehicles in June, including those sold in China and exported to overseas markets. The company registered 12,270 vehicles for insurance in China last week, up 144.91% from the previous week's 5,010.

A Mid-Month Dip in Insurance Registrations

Despite these record-breaking deliveries, a decline in EV insurance registrations for Nio, Li Auto, and other major brands in China during the week of July 7-13 was primarily driven by an ongoing market weakness from earlier in the month. This weakness was due to natural mid-month fluctuations in registrations, product launch timing, competitive market pressures, and structural shifts within the brands.

For instance, Onvo's growth later in the month was propelled by the launch and deliveries of the L90 electric SUV at the end of July. Before that, Onvo’s registrations were declining—similar patterns were seen with Firefly.

Li Auto, while specific registration numbers from that week are not directly detailed, industry reports indicate a continued performance weakness with ongoing challenges adapting from their prior EREV models to new all-electric vehicles.

Other Notable Figures

Zeekr Group delivered 43,012 vehicles in June, a decrease of 7.58% from 46,538 in May. Aito — the brand co-developed by Huawei and Seres Group — saw 8,610 insurance registrations last week.

BYD Group sold 382,585 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in June, the highest figure so far this year. However, BYD brand vehicles had 48,780 insurance registrations last week, a decrease of 12.22% from the previous week's 55,570 units.

our X (Twitter) profileiaomi had 6,680 insurance registrations last week, up 36.61% from the previous week's 4,890 units. The Model Y crossover had 9,410 insurance registrations last week, while the Model 3 sedan had 2,850.

In conclusion, the decline in EV insurance registrations for these brands during the week of July 7-13 was linked mainly to normal mid-month market fluctuations, product launch timing, competitive market pressures, and structural shifts within the brands. This short-term dip was followed by recovery and strong growth in late July and early August.
