Week of Climate Adaptation Kicks Off With New Digital Tools for Cities

The Week of Climate Adaptation is set to commence on September 15th, running until the 19th, offering a variety of free events. This week-long initiative aims to raise awareness and promote action towards climate resilience. Meanwhile, significant digital tools have been developed to aid municipalities in managing nature-based solutions for climate adaptation and protection.

The project ISAP, backed by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMFTR) and involving researchers from the Institute for Ecological Economy Research (IÖW) and partners like Net Positive Cities, has created two valuable digital resources. The first is a digital climate atlas tailored to the Stuttgart region, providing detailed climate data to inform local planning. The second is a nationwide data portal dedicated to selecting climate-resilient tree species, aiding in urban forest management.

These tools enable municipalities to better understand and respond to local climate challenges. They facilitate the implementation of nature-based solutions, such as green infrastructure and sustainable urban drainage, which not only adapt to climate change but also enhance biodiversity and improve urban living conditions.

The Week of Climate Adaptation, along with the digital climate atlas and nationwide data portal, underscores the commitment to helping municipalities adapt to climate change. These resources empower local authorities to make informed decisions, fostering a more resilient and sustainable future.
