Volkswagen Tayron Set to Enter Indian Three-Row SUV Market
The Volkswagen Tayron, a midsize SUV offering both 5- and 7-seater configurations, is set to make its debut in the Indian market. This new addition will replace the Tiguan AllSpace and is expected to compete in the 7-seater midsize SUV segment.
The Tayron, built on the MQB EVO platform, will be equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine, similar to the one used in the new Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line. This engine is expected to deliver around 200 bhp of max power and a peak torque output of 320 Nm.
The Tayron boasts a clean, striking SUV design, featuring LED plus headlights, an illuminated Volkswagen badge front and rear, and 19-inch alloy wheels on sportier trims. While the global variant comes equipped with IQ.LIGHT HD Matrix headlamps, the Indian variant's features are yet to be confirmed.
Inside, the Tayron offers a premium interior with options such as Varenna leather seats with R-Line logo, ergoActive massage function, ventilated/heated seats, 30-color ambient lighting, and high-quality finishes including ArtVelours Eco microfiber. Infotainment includes a 12.9-inch touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.
Safety and driver assistance features include Level 2 ADAS systems, IQ.Light HD Matrix headlights, Travel Assist, Exit Warning system, and a 5-star Euro NCAP rating for models with advanced safety packages.
The Tayron will also offer various hybrid and diesel options depending on the market. Key specifications include a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission across all engine variants.
The Tayron aims to combine premium features with advanced powertrains and safety technologies, making it a strong competitor in the Indian market. Pricing details are yet to be announced, but the SUV is expected to launch by the end of 2025.
Other competitors in the same segment include the Tata Curvv, priced at ₹ 10 Lakhs, the Kia Syros, priced at ₹ 9 Lakhs, and the Renault Bigster, an upcoming car expected to be priced between ₹ 13 - 18 Lakhs. The Volkswagen Taigun, priced at ₹ 11.80 Lakhs, and the Skoda Kushaq, priced at ₹ 10.99 Lakhs, are also competitors in this segment. The Volkswagen Virtus, priced at ₹ 11.56 Lakhs and also powered by a 1498 cc Petrol engine, competes against the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and Skoda Slavia.
The front of the Tayron features a stylish pair of LED headlamps, a black grille cover, and an air dam with a mesh pattern. The design of the Tayron resembles the Tiguan R-Line, with an extended length of 231 mm for additional interior space.
