VMware migrants are given a workaround solution to increase platform stability by Platform9.

In the fast-paced world of technology, keeping up with changes is crucial. This is especially true when it comes to cloud infrastructure and virtualization. Recently, several notable developments have taken place in this field, and we're going to take a closer look at some of them.

Oracle's VirtualBox Licensing Change May Pose a Risk

Oracle has made a change in the licensing of VirtualBox, which may pose a risk for the unwary. It's always important to stay informed about such changes to avoid any potential issues.

FluidCloud's Innovative Tool for Enhanced VMware Migrations

FluidCloud, a startup, has delivered a tool that can identify cloud infrastructure, describe it, and re-deploy it to another cloud, also producing Terraform files if preferred. In addition, they are in talks with Nutanix to use this tool for enhancing VMware migrations.

Platform9's Efficient VMware Migration Solution

Platform9 has made VMware migrations much more efficient by enabling an in-place conversion of VMware clusters host-by-host on existing infrastructure. This approach eliminates the costs and complexities tied to additional hardware during migration.

Their updated vJailbreak tool can migrate a single host to Platform9's Private Cloud Director and move VMs to that host, eliminating the need for swing hardware. This tool automatically migrates running VMs off a host using vMotion, puts the host into maintenance mode, disassembles the host from the VMware cluster, re-images the physical host with Platform9's Private Cloud Director stack, configures storage and networking, brings the host back online as part of the new private cloud environment, and then migrates VMs onto the newly converted host.

This process occurs sequentially across all hosts in the VMware cluster, saving time, resources, and minimizing business disruption. Additional advantages include up to 70% reduction in migration time, minimal manual intervention due to full-stack automation, no downtime or interruption to running applications during host reimaging, a simple GUI for ease of use, and open source transparency via GitHub.

HPE's Morpheus Community Edition and Acumera's Acquisition

HPE announced a Community Edition of its Morpheus hybrid cloud orchestration platform last week, capable of working across three CPU sockets. Meanwhile, Acumera recently acquired hyperconverged infrastructure contender Scale Computing.

Open Source Virtualization Platform Proxmox's New Version

Open source virtualization platform Proxmox recently debuted a new version. Keep an eye out for more updates on this development.

VMware's Perpetual License Holders and HPE Morpheus Community Edition

VMware is preventing some perpetual license holders from downloading patches. To try out the HPE Morpheus Community Edition, users need to mail HPE and ask for a license.
