Visa and Absa yet again strengthen their alliance, aiming to speed up Absa's digital evolution.

Absa and Visa have strengthened their strategic partnership, aiming to accelerate the development of innovative, inclusive, secure, and digitally enabled financial payment ecosystems across Absa’s Regional Operations (ARO) in Africa. The renewed agreement places a strong emphasis on enabling small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with targeted solutions.

The partnership marks a significant milestone in advancing financial inclusion and digital transformation across Africa. It includes the expansion of digital infrastructure to support broader financial access and digital payments across multiple African markets. Absa will also launch Visa Business Credit Cards in 2025, offering tailored benefits, spend controls, and advanced expense management for businesses and entrepreneurs.

One of the key innovations is the introduction of Visa Business Credit Cards by Absa, which offers customized benefits, spend limits, virtual card issuance, and Visa Spend Clarity Plus — a first in Sub-Saharan Africa — to enhance business expense management and payment acceptance. The partnership also includes the launch of premium Visa Signature and Infinite metal cards, setting a new benchmark in premium banking with exclusive lifestyle benefits.

Absa has already delivered several market-first innovations for customers across Africa, including the launch of Visa Direct for card-to-card domestic and international payments. The renewed partnership also aims to enable financial access to underserved communities and deepen digital access for Absa’s customers.

Saviour Chibiya, Chief Executive for Absa Regional Operations, stated, "Through our strategic partnership with Visa, we're building a financial ecosystem that reflects the pace of today's African economies." Lineshree Moodley, Country Head for Visa South Africa, added, "The partnership with Absa stands as a powerful testament to the shared vision between the two brands, championing a secure, inclusive, and resilient digital payments ecosystem."

The agreement was formalized at a signing ceremony in Johannesburg. Michael Berner, Head of Southern and East Africa at Visa, stated that the regional expansion marks an exciting new chapter in their partnership with Absa. Omar Baig, Managing Executive for Absa Regional Operations Retail & Business Banking, stated that the renewed agreement helps them move with greater speed and coordination to meet the needs of the communities they serve.

The partnership between Absa and Visa stands as a testament to their commitment to transforming financial services in Africa by growing digital access, enabling inclusive financial ecosystems, and addressing the evolving needs of individuals and businesses across the continent.
