In the heart of Thailand's capital, our Vietnamese envoy, Pham Viet Hung, unfurled his vision for Vietnam's future at the 81st session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). Hung, our Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand and Permanent Representative to ESCAP, drew a bead on science-technology, innovation, and digital transformation as Vietnam's top priorities.
At the UN Conference Center in Bangkok on Thursday, Hung asserted that these areas hold the key to dragging Vietnam out of the middle-income rut and propelling the nation into a new era of development. Hung's address underscored Vietnam's backing for the UN's efforts to bolster global tech governance in adherence with its charter and international law.
Hung called for ESCAP to wield its clout to aid the execution of the global digital accord in the region and fan the flames of initiatives revolving around breakthrough technologies, primarily artificial intelligence (AI).
The ambassador pointedly underscored the significance of equal access to technologies, urging wealthy nations to spill their tech secrets and ply their technological might onto developing countries. Hung's crusade didn't stop there. He also championed capacity-building initiatives and promoted inventive financial tools to fuel digital makeovers.
In the wings of the event, which ran from April 21 to 25, Hung tackled a special event focusing on urban development that seeks to be both inclusive and sustainable, emphasizing infrastructure development as one of Vietnam's crucial strategic advances.
Hung zeroed in on transit-oriented urban development as the silver bullet for streamlining urban planning, sparking economic growth, and cultivating sustainable cities. He also underlined efforts to implement related models in both Ha Noi and HCM City—Vietnam's two biggest metropolises.
With starry-eyed gratitude for international partners' partnership in urban development, Hung trumpeted the need for bullish cooperative ties to advance smart tech and cutting-edge solutions for sustainable urbanization in Vietnam.
The 81st ESCAP session herded in around 650 delegates from over 52 member countries and territories, plus international org reps. The summit is set to wrap up on Friday with the adoption of a smorgasbord of regional resolutions on cooperative ventures concerning climate-water interlinkages, sustainable urban development, and growing middle-income nations. 🌆🌏 - VNS 🌟
