Vectorworks company reportedly intends to purchase connectCAD, with the aim of enhancing its capabilities to cater to the audio-visual workflow.

In a significant move, Vectorworks, Inc., a global leader in design and BIM software solutions, has announced the acquisition of connectCAD, a systems design solution for the audiovisual (AV) industry. This acquisition marks a new era for connectCAD and a natural extension of Vectorworks' AV capabilities for users.

With over 675,000 professionals relying on Vectorworks software, the company is well-positioned to empower designers to create experiences that transform the world. The acquisition of connectCAD will further strengthen Vectorworks' offerings, enabling efficient collaboration throughout the project life-cycle and allowing designers to build data-rich, visual models without compromising the design process.

connectCAD, founded by Conrad Preen, has been a popular choice for complex AV installations worldwide. It is used in various sectors, including exhibitions, casinos, conferences, churches, staging events, theme parks, broadcast systems, IT and telecom infrastructure, and more. The software enables the design of broadcast, AV, lighting, and IT networks, with as-built drawings and cable lists matching the completed cabling architecture.

The first phase of the acquisition will be completed during the Vectorworks 2020 version cycle. Dr. Biplab Sarkar, Vectorworks CEO, expressed his enthusiasm for the acquisition, stating that connectCAD benefits anyone involved in design, installation, and connection of electrical and electronic systems.

Post-acquisition, connectCAD Founder, Conrad Preen, will commit to a minimum of two years with Vectorworks for further development of connectCAD. One of the immediate priorities is to convert all Vectorscript tools and commands to C++ using Vectorworks SDK. Once completed, connectCAD will be offered as an add-on module for Vectorworks Spotlight or Designer in English and German.

Vectorworks is a part of the Nemetschek Group, and its headquarters are located in Columbia, Maryland, with additional offices in Atlanta, Georgia, Newbury and London, England, and Vancouver, Canada. The company's mission remains to provide designers with the most advanced software tools to bring their ideas to life.

As Vectorworks and connectCAD join forces, designers can look forward to a more integrated and powerful AV design experience. The acquisition is set to revolutionise the way designers approach AV projects, making it easier than ever to transform the world through design.
