During a historic state visit, President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer discussed a wide range of global issues and signed a new technology partnership. The visit, which began with Trump's overnight stay at Windsor Castle with the royal family, continued at Chequers, Starmer's official residence north of London.

The technology partnership, signed at Starmer's country residence, focuses on investments in artificial intelligence and nuclear power. Trump hailed this agreement as a significant step, saying it has the potential to change lives.

Besides the technology partnership, the two leaders discussed pressing global issues such as Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine, the growing threat to NATO's eastern flank, and the conflict in Gaza. Trump expressed his belief that the war in Ukraine could be one of the easiest global conflicts to solve "because of my relationship with President Putin." However, Starmer argued that Putin is "not someone who wants peace," citing recent bombardments by Russia on Ukraine and the violation of Poland's airspace by Russian drones.

On the issue of Gaza, Trump and Starmer agreed on the need for a roadmap to peace. Trump focused his remarks on the hostages held by Hamas, stating he wants them released immediately. He also mentioned that Hamas plans to use hostages as bait in any attack.

In addition to global conflicts and technology partnerships, the leaders discussed a major US investment package in the UK, technology partnerships including AI, quantum computing, and nuclear energy, energy cooperation, trade issues such as steel and aluminum tariffs, and broader global conflicts.

During the state banquet at Windsor Castle, Trump praised the special relationship between the U.S. and the U.K., echoing sentiments shared by King Charles, who emphasised this during his remarks at the banquet. The event was attended by various CEOs of influential companies, including Steve Schwarzman, Rupert Murdoch, Tim Cook, Jensen Huang, and Sam Altman.

Trump's visit to the UK was not without controversy. Reports suggest that he is poised to fire the US attorney for resisting an effort to charge the New York AG.

Despite some disagreements, such as Trump's expression of "disagreement" with Starmer on the United Kingdom moving to recognize a Palestinian state, both leaders emphasised the importance of the alliance between their countries. Starmer, in his remarks, stated that the alliance has the "power to change lives."

As the state visit wraps up on Thursday, the Trumps will head back to Washington, with Trump stating that he has secured $350 billion in deals during his trip across the Atlantic.
