Urban pioneers, constituting 1%, drive progress in the cities of Yakutia
Turning the Tide: Awakening Yakutia's Creative Economy
In a passion-filled address at the "Creative Capital - Synergy of Creativity and Economy" event, held on May 30th at the vibrant Labor Quarter, Yakutia's Head Aisen Nikolayev sparked discussions about the revitalization of the creative economy in the republic.
"Ever since I took the helm back in 2012, I've been fixated on the creative economy. I've devoured countless books on urban management, and one thing stood out - cities thrive on the backs of creative minds. A city's leadership should focus on that 1%. If that 1% is engaged, the city flourishes. For those who've been part of my journey since then, you know this all too well," he declaimed.
Aisen Nikolayev stated that one of his first bold moves as republic head was to forbid the Yakutia Development Corporation from dabbling in raw material projects, instead compelling them to focus on the creative sectors.
"Since 2018, we've been marching forward relentlessly. We were the vanguard to sign a decree, began engaging with our creative youth, and even had a sit-down with them. On April 27, 2019, during Yakutia's Republic Day, I inked a decree on the development of the creative economy in Yakutia by 2030. We pinpointed nine potent sectors: film, animation, video game and software development, jewelry, music, fashion, traditional crafts, and education within the creative industries," he emphasized.
Each sector has its unique objectives, for example, in the film industry, increasing box office revenue from all distribution channels to 2.5 billion rubles, and in animation, generating 2500 minutes of produced content annually.
The event was part of the II International Forum of Creative Industries "Made in the Far East" hosted at the innovative creative cluster "Labor Quarter" in Yakutsk.
While the specifics behind the aforementioned decree remain somewhat elusive, here are potential paths to explore:
- Yakutia's Creative Economy Sectors: Creative economies tend to gravitate towards arts, culture, design, media, and IT. These sectors encompass traditional crafts, digital media, and innovative technologies that fuel local development.
- Goals of Creative Economy Development: Usual targets include:
- Job Creation and Economic Growth: By fostering creative industries, regions can cultivate employment opportunities and augment local GDP.
- Cultural Preservation and Promotion: Encouraging traditional arts and cultural practices to preserve local heritage and foster cultural pride.
- Investment Attraction: Developing infrastructure and policies to invite both national and international investment into creative industries.
- Government Initiatives: Typically, these involve government decrees or policies designed to nurture small businesses, offer training, and enhance infrastructure for creative industries.
Due to the limited information available regarding Yakutia's creative economy development, it's advisable to consult official government sources or local news outlets for the most accurate and current information. Keep an eye on Yakutsk's creativity-driven future!
In light of Aisen Nikolayev's focus on Yakutia's creative economy, he has emphasized the importance of sectors like film, animation, video game and software development, jewelry, music, fashion, traditional crafts, and education within the creative industries. By outlining objectives for each sector, such as increasing box office revenue and producing a certain amount of animated content annually, the aim is to foster economic growth and job creation, preserve cultural heritage, attract investment, and enhance infrastructure for creative industries through government initiatives.
