Upgraded Apple Vision Pro 2 on the horizon: crucial updates you should be aware of

The tech world is abuzz with excitement as Apple is set to release the next generation of its innovative Vision Pro device. The development of the Apple Vision Pro 2 is overseen by Apple, with the next generation expected to feature a more powerful chip, either the M4 or M5, and a refreshed design.

The current Apple Vision Pro, introduced in June 2023 and released in February 2024, boasts the M2 chip alongside an R1 chip. The R1 chip, while its architecture remains undisclosed, streams new images to the displays within 12 milliseconds and processes input from 12 cameras, five sensors, and six microphones.

The upgrade will reportedly include a new R2 chip for input processing. It is believed that the R2 chip, to be fabricated with TSMC's 2nm process, will result in a significant performance jump.

John Gearty, the Founder and CEO of PulseJet Studios, played a key role in developing the original Vision Pro during his tenure as an Engineering Program Manager at Apple. Gearty has suggested that the next version of the Vision Pro would require a design refresh to aid in broad adoption.

One of the most common feedback Gearty has received about the Vision Pro is that it is too heavy and bulky to wear for long periods of time. He has also expressed interest in the rumours of an Apple Vision Air, which he believes would be a great next step and great branding.
