Unveil the endless realms of digital universes with "Eternel.le.s"

In April 2024, visual and sound artist Wilfried Thierry will showcase his latest work, "Eterne.le.s," at the Recto VRso digital art festival. This interactive short film resembles a melancholic hybrid of cinema and video games, exploring the themes of absence, death, and our relationship with reality.

"Eterne.le.s" delves into the aftermath of a character's father's death, as he negotiates the infinite virtual universes available to him. Thierry describes the work as an ode to space and time, inviting viewers to question their own perceptions of reality, mortality, and the bounds of the virtual world.

Thierry's diverse portfolio spans from video games to music and performance art, often featuring ephemeral objects and an emphasis on audio-visual synergy. At the 2022 edition of Recto VRSo, he presented "Wonderful Life," a diptych of video games offering hypnotic, infinite wanderings.

Digital technology serves as the catalyst for Thierry's work, particularly its potential for infinity. In "Eterne.le.s," he explores this concept through a character's journey, questioning whether virtual worlds have altered our perceptions of death, reality, and the idea of an afterlife in the digital realm. The film's teaser poses these queries: "Are we eternal? Is time only tangible at its limits, tipping the finite into the infinite?"

"Eterne.le.s" invites participants to experience its narrative firsthand at the 7th edition of the Recto VRso digital art festival, running concurrently with an online exhibition. The project promises to add depth to discussions surrounding digital legacy, the ethics of preserving consciousness in artificial environments, and the fluidity of reality in our increasingly digitized world.

Thierry's character in "Eterne.le.s" navigates through an array of virtual universes, which are made possible by advanced technology and gadgets. The film's exploration of virtual worlds and their potential impact on our perceptions of death, reality, and the afterlife highlights the transformative power of technology in shaping our understanding of existence.
