University of Texas Launches 6G Research Center to Power Next Gen Networks
Researchers at The University of Texas at Austin have launched 6G@UT, a new research center dedicated to the development of 6G technology. This center aims to lay the groundwork for the next generation of wireless networks, which are expected to have unprecedented native intelligence.
6G@UT is a spin-off from the Cockrell School's Wireless Networking & Communications Group, a global leader in wireless technology. The center will focus on wireless-specific machine learning algorithms, advanced sensing technologies, and core networking innovations. It will also explore new spectrum, low Earth orbit satellite links, and network architectures to improve coverage and resource sharing.
The center is supported by industry titans including Samsung, NVIDIA, AT&T, Qualcomm, and InterDigital. It is led by Jeffrey Andrews, with other key faculty members including Todd Humphreys, Sanjay Shakkottai, and Gustavo de Veciana. With over 25 faculty members, 130 students and researchers, and support from major industry players, 6G@UT is poised to make significant strides in 6G technology.
The launch of 6G@UT marks a significant step towards the future of wireless communication. With its focus on advanced technologies and strong industry support, the center is well-positioned to transform service capabilities and pave the way for the 6G era.
