New Online Banking Scam Discovered in Bad Driburg
The Circular Police Authority in Höxter, Germany, has issued a warning about a new online banking scam that was recently discovered in Bad Driburg. According to the authorities, this scam is a concerning development as it involves criminals, also known as police impersonators, targeting individuals with their personal data.
On March 26, a senior citizen in Bad Driburg received a call from an individual claiming to be a bank employee. The scammer requested the installation of the 'Anydesk' app, allegedly to stop an unauthorized transfer abroad and retrieve the money via the app. Fortunately, the senior citizen recognized the scam attempt and avoided financial loss.
The scammer had access to the victim's personal data, including their name, address, and non-publicly listed landline number. No suspicious transfer occurred according to the victim's bank, indicating that the scammer did not succeed in their attempt.
