Ukraine's Military tests innovative MM-25 camouflage design; procurement of a test batch is imminent
Ukraine Introduces New Camouflage Pattern Inspired by MultiCam
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry has approved a new camouflage pattern, MM-25, for the production of uniform items. This new pattern, which bears a strong resemblance to the popular American MultiCam, is not a replacement for the current MM-14 (pixel) pattern but an additional option.
The decision to introduce MM-25 was made in June 2025, driven by the demands of Ukrainian soldiers engaged in combat. Over the past year and a half, troops have been using MultiCam-style uniforms, often purchasing them at their own expense.
The MM-25 closely resembles the MultiCam pattern, which is known for its effectiveness across multiple environments. This introduction aims to meet the combat troops’ demands for better-performing camouflage suited to various terrains, provide an officially sanctioned MultiCam-like option, and expand the range of approved camouflage alongside the pixel MM-14, olive, and coyote patterns.
The similarity to MultiCam stems from MM-25 being explicitly inspired by the US-designed pattern developed by Crye Precision. While digital “pixel” camouflage focuses on blocky, pixelated shapes, MultiCam’s more organic shapes and blended palette are regarded as providing better camouflage across varied landscapes.
Regular ground troops will continue to wear pixel camouflage, while special forces will wear MultiCam, according to Oleksandr Hudymenko, the head of the Central Logistics Development Directorate. Hudymenko emphasized that this is an important element for identifying special units on the line of contact.
Several units, including military intelligence, have sent requests for official supplies of uniforms with the MultiCam pattern, Hudymenko stated. The Defence Ministry's procurement agency DOT has launched a tender process for the first trial batches of products featuring MM-25.
However, the introduction of MM-25 has not been without controversy. Former Defence Ministry advisor Dana Yarova has criticized the ministry's initiative, arguing that MultiCam's popularity is not due to the pattern but to the quality of the fabric.
Despite this, the Defence Ministry expects the new pattern to offer more options for combat units and open up opportunities for producers already working with similar printing and tailoring technologies. Only one manufacturer in Ukraine currently has the technical capacity to produce MultiCam fabric, but over ten manufacturers have expressed interest in reviewing the new MM-25 camouflage pattern and its color palette.
In 2025, DOT plans to purchase 20,000 pieces of items with the new camouflage to assess production capacity and gradually integrate the pattern into the Armed Forces' supply system. Full production retooling for MultiCam fabric production could take up to a year.

- The Ukrainian government, with a focus on enhancing combat efficiency, intends to leverage technology by encouraging domestic manufacturers to produce the MM-25 camouflage pattern, similar to MultiCam, as part of their anti-corruption efforts to provide quality uniforms at a lower cost.
- In the realms of public health and sports, the introduction of the MM-25 camouflage pattern may inspire additional initiatives, as this advancement in military technology could open doors for more innovative projects, fostering a culture of continuous improvement across multiple sectors.
