UAE Plans to Enhance Final Leg Deliveries Using Electric Bicycles
Aramex Embraces Green Logistics: Electrifying Fleets and Partnering with Dronamics and Odys Aviation
Aramex, a leading global logistics services provider based in Dubai, is actively advancing its sustainability efforts. The company is integrating electric vehicles (EVs) and drone technology into its delivery network as key components of its sustainability roadmap.
Electrification of Last-Mile Delivery Fleets
To reduce carbon emissions and enhance environmental performance, Aramex is incorporating EVs into its last-mile delivery operations. This move is part of its 'Delivering Good' strategy, which aims to reduce environmental impact, improve efficiency, and increase customer satisfaction.
Partnerships with Dronamics and Odys Aviation
Aramex has partnered with Dronamics, a company specializing in long-range cargo drones, and Odys Aviation, which focuses on advanced urban air mobility solutions. These collaborations aim to leverage drone technology to revolutionize parcel delivery by reducing reliance on traditional fossil-fuel transport, enabling faster, greener freight movement, and enhancing logistical reach and efficiency.
The partnership with Odys Aviation will provide Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) cargo delivery in the regions where Aramex is operational. The VTOL aircraft, operated by Aramex, has a 320 km all-electric and over 1,200 hybrid-electric range. It also boasts multiple cargo configurations to improve efficiency.
Expanding Delivery Operations
The introduction of electric vans (e-vans) for its logistics operations in the UAE and Jordan, and the partnership with Dronamics and Odys Aviation, will expand Aramex's delivery operations. The VTOL aircraft will allow Aramex to deliver parcels more quickly and efficiently in regions where it operates.
Sustainability Efforts in the UAE
The UAE has stepped up its sustainability efforts following the hosting of the COP28 climate conference and the extension of the Year of Sustainability to 2024. Aramex's commitment to electrifying its last-mile fleets is part of the UAE's broader efforts towards sustainability.
The aim is to convert 98% of Aramex's fleet to electricity by the 2030s. Aramex is also partnering with Odys Aviation to provide cargo operations in the UAE and Oman. The company has set 2030 as the year to reach carbon neutrality and achieve zero emissions by 2050, aligned with the UAE's timeline.
Conclusion
By electrifying its last-mile delivery fleets and partnering with innovative drone logistics companies, Aramex is positioning itself as a pioneer in green logistics solutions in the GCC and beyond. These initiatives reflect Aramex's strategic focus on innovation and sustainability within the global logistics sector.
