U.S. Space Force Reorganizes to Speed Up Acquisitions

The U.S. Space Force is reorganising to enhance its acquisition process. The restructuring follows recent workforce cuts and aims to ensure each program office has the necessary contracting officers. The force is establishing new mission-focused units, called 'System Deltas', to accelerate the delivery of space systems.

Currently active System Deltas focus on critical areas such as Electromagnetic Warfare, Position, Navigation & Timing, and Space Domain Awareness/Battle Management. Each is led by a colonel who works directly with a counterpart in the Space Operations Command. The first System Deltas launched in late 2023, with more activated throughout the summer of 2025.

Planned activations for the remainder of the year include units focused on Satellite Communications, Combat Power, and Assured Access to Space. The Space Force aims to have up to 10 operational System Deltas by the end of 2025, covering key areas like satellite communications and combat power. These units aim to improve collaboration between acquisition officers and operational commanders, streamlining acquisitions and reducing bureaucratic delays.

The Space Force's restructuring and activation of System Deltas reflect its commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and meeting the evolving needs of space missions. Despite recent workforce cuts, the force is adapting to ensure it has the necessary resources to deliver critical space systems.
