Twitter's X profile i.e. iamiaomilibya announces the official launch of YU7 SUV on June 26.
The Chinese tech giant, Xiaomi, has accelerated its plans and is set to launch its much-anticipated YU7 SUV on June 26, 2025, at 7:00 pm. This marks a significant move in the competitive electric vehicle (EV) market, as the YU7 is poised to challenge the Tesla Model Y.
The YU7, Xiaomi's first SUV model, will offer a starting price of approximately 253,500 yuan (around 35,000 USD), with higher trims going up to 329,900 yuan. Customers who pay a 5,000 yuan deposit by July 31 can receive up to 66,000 yuan in incentives, a limited-time offer that is refundable within 7 days if the order isn't finalized.
The YU7 will be available in three trims: Standard, Pro, and Max. The Pro and Max variants are dual-motor all-wheel drive, delivering 496 PS and 690 PS respectively. They outperform the Tesla Model Y variants in terms of 0-100 km/h acceleration, with the Pro achieving 4.27 seconds and the Max reaching 3.23 seconds, compared to the Model Y's 5.9 and 4.3 seconds respectively.
In terms of battery and range, the Standard and Pro trims feature a 96.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, with CLTC range estimates of 835 km and 770 km. The Max trim uses a 101.7 kWh ternary lithium battery, offering a range of 760 km. These ranges surpass those of the Tesla Model Y’s CLTC ranges of 593 km and 719 km in its variants.
The YU7 was developed and tested extensively from 2024 and is manufactured at Xiaomi's F2 EV factory in Beijing, which was completed by July 2025. Deliveries for initial orders are expected to start in July 2025, with mass production of customized orders beginning in August 2025.
Xiaomi's Twitter profile also offers an app that provides information about the wait times for their vehicles, including the YU7. As of May 25, the number of users who paid a deposit to reserve the YU7 was about three times that of the SU7 during the same period.
The YU7 incorporates Xiaomi’s technology ecosystem, making it a significant contender in the Chinese EV market. At the event, Xiaomi will also launch the Xiaomi Flip 2 foldable smartphone and the Xiaomi Pad 7S Pro, both equipped with Xiaomi's in-house technology.
The SU7, Xiaomi's first EV model, debuted on March 28, 2024, with a starting price of RMB 215,900. The SU7 series has seen strong sales, with monthly deliveries exceeding 20,000 units for eight consecutive months, including over 28,000 units in May.
President Lu Weibing of Xiaomi stated that the YU7 has been more popular than the SU7 sedan when it first debuted. The YU7's early debut and higher pre-order inquiries than the SU7 during the same period suggest a strong demand for the new model.
With its competitive pricing, superior acceleration, and longer range, the YU7 poses a potential threat to the Tesla Model Y in the market. As Xiaomi continues to innovate and challenge the status quo, the EV landscape in China is set for an exciting evolution.
