TikTok link is a scam promising direct financial aid of 2000 euros
In a recent development, multiple TikTok accounts have been spreading false information about a supposed 2,000 euro to dollar aid for Spanish citizens, claiming it originates from a 'social fund' and will be distributed from September 20. However, the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030, and other relevant authorities have confirmed that no such aid has been confirmed.
The video in question, which has garnered over 400,000 views and been shared over 11,000 times, requests personal information, including mobile phone numbers, from viewers. This is a clear case of 'phishing', a type of identity theft scam, as explained by INCIBE.
The video claims that Spanish citizens born between 1949 and 2010 will receive the 2,000 euro to usd. However, a search on Verificaour website, a platform dedicated to verifying the authenticity of information, did not find any credible results supporting this claim. Furthermore, no results about such an aid from other administrations or institutions were found in a search of news agencies and communication media.
The link provided in the profile of the account spreading the video leads to more information and the application for the alleged aid. However, these web links redirect to profiles mimicking Telegram profiles, another red flag indicating the scam's nature.
INCIBE recommends not providing personal data unless the entities being impersonated have been contacted and confirmed as the source of the request. The Ministry of Social Rights has also confirmed that the claim about the 2,000 euro to dollar aid is false.
