Tesla's Expansion Plans in Saudi Arabia

Tesla, the electric vehicle and clean energy company led by Elon Musk, has expressed interest in expanding its operations to Saudi Arabia. This announcement was made during the Saudi-U.S. Investment Forum.

Musk revealed plans to bring Tesla's Robotaxi service to Saudi Arabia, although specific details about the launch timeline are yet to be disclosed. Tesla has been focusing on launching its robotaxi service in the United States, with initial plans for San Francisco and a pilot in Austin, Texas.

In addition to the Robotaxi service, Musk also mentioned the possibility of introducing Tesla's Optimus humanoid robots in Saudi Arabia. However, production challenges have thus far limited the number of Optimus robots produced, with only a few hundred units available.

Saudi Arabia is not new to autonomous services, as WeRide has received approval to operate robotaxis in partnership with Uber and others in Riyadh. A partnership between Saudi PIF-backed Lucid, Nuro, and Uber has also been announced to launch an autonomous robotaxi program in the country.

Musk's ambitions for Saudi Arabia extend beyond autonomous vehicles. He has suggested expanding his tunnel-based traffic solution to the cities of Saudi Arabia, following its success as a proof of concept in Las Vegas.

Starlink, another project by Musk, has also received approval to begin offering service for maritime and aviation use in Saudi Arabia. This development marks another step in Tesla's global expansion.

Musk's AI company, xAI, aims to develop "maximally truth-seeking AI" to help better understand the universe. The first Tesla showroom in the Middle East was opened, and the Cybertruck, a Tesla vehicle, was launched in the Middle East in April 2025.

While details about the specifics of Tesla's plans in Saudi Arabia are still scarce, it is clear that the company is committed to making a significant impact in the region.

  1. In light of Tesla's expansion plans in Saudi Arabia, the company intends to introduce its artificial-intelligence-driven Robotaxi service, aiming to join the emerging autonomous transportation industry in the country.
  2. Moreover, Tesla's Optimus humanoid robots might also be introduced in Saudi Arabia, adding a significant intersection of finance, technology, and artificial-intelligence to the region's industry landscape.
  3. As part of its diverse global ambitions, Tesla's Starlink service, a venture by Elon Musk focusing on satellite communications, will be available for maritime and aviation use in Saudi Arabia, further exploring opportunities in the finance and technology sectors of the kingdom.
