Tesla unveils its long-distance vehicle equipped with an innovation in battery technology
The electric vehicle (EV) landscape is about to change with Tesla's latest announcement - the introduction of the new single-motor Model 3 Long Range variant. This new model, priced at the equivalent of AUD 57,700, is currently available for order in China and is expected to make its way to right-hand-drive markets, including Australia, later in 2025.
The new Model 3 Long Range variant boasts an impressive range of up to 830 km on the Chinese CLTC test cycle, which translates to over 700 km on the WLTP cycle used in Australia. This range is approximately 10% more than the current Long Range dual-motor variant sold in Australia, offering a significant improvement for EV enthusiasts.
The improved range is credited to the use of a new 78.4 kWh Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese (NCM) battery pack supplied by LG Energy. This upgrade replaces the older battery technology, resulting in a more powerful 225 kW electric motor and improved acceleration. The new Model 3 Long Range variant can do the 0-100 km/h sprint in around 5.2 seconds, a significant improvement over the entry-level RWD variant.
Tesla is yet to announce exact delivery dates for the new Model 3 Long Range variant in Australia, but the company has confirmed that it is planning to bring this new single-motor model Down Under before the end of the year. The estimated delivery date for the entry-level RWD standard range Model 3 is 1-3 weeks, providing a potential timeline for the new variant's arrival.
In China, Tesla is offering a range of summer incentives to boost sales, including 5 years 0% interest, an insurance subsidy of around AUD 1,700, charging incentives, and Enhanced Autopilot transfer for a limited time. It remains to be seen whether similar incentives will be offered in right-hand-drive markets like Australia.
Meanwhile, the EV landscape in Australia is also evolving, with companies like Carloop, an Australian firm specialising in EV data, insight reports, and trends, leading the charge. Carloop's founder, Riz Akhtar, a mechanical engineer with 7 years of experience in building transport infrastructure, drives a red Tesla Model 3 and has a passion for reducing transport emissions in Australia.
For those looking for long-range sedan options in Tesla's local Australian inventory, there are multiple options available, some of which are discounted by up to AUD 5,500 off the driveaway price. With the introduction of the new Model 3 Long Range variant, Tesla is set to continue its dominance in the EV market, offering consumers more choices and greater range.

The new single-motor Model 3 Long Range variant, scheduled for delivery in Australia by the end of 2025, is expected to significantly disrupt the EV market, given its impressive range of over 700 km on the WLTP cycle and improved acceleration. This upgrade, facilitated by a new 78.4 kWh Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese (NCM) battery pack supplied by LG Energy, also signifies Tesla's continued investment in technology to advance the automotive industry and finance, as they strategize to remain dominant in the evolving landscape of transportation finance.
