Tesla unexpectedly unveils new feature titled 'Actually Smart Summon'
Tesla Introduces "Actually Smart Summon" and "Dumb Summon" Features
In a significant development, Tesla has announced the release of two new features for its vehicles: "Actually Smart Summon" and "Dumb Summon." The announcement was made by CEO Elon Musk on September 3, 2024, in a post on X.
The "Actually Smart Summon" feature, as the name suggests, allows Tesla owners to call their vehicle to them or send it to a location of their choosing. This function is intended for use in parking lots or driveways, making it easier for owners to navigate crowded spaces. The feature is a result of Tesla's progress with the software for Full Self-Driving, which was discussed during the company's earnings call in Q2.
On the other hand, the "Dumb Summon" feature enables owners to move their Teslas forward or backward with controls in the Tesla mobile app. This feature, cheekily dubbed "ASS," was primarily developed by Tesla's Autopilot software engineering team, under the direction of Tesla and Elon Musk.
The transition to unsupervised Full Self-Driving, as stated by Elon Musk, could unlock massive potential. The release of "Actually Smart Summon" and "Dumb Summon" brings Tesla closer to this vision.
The new features work with the latest versions of the Tesla mobile app, and a safety feature has been incorporated to warn users to stay vigilant around people, bikes, and other cars. Users are responsible for their vehicles during the use of these new features and are expected to intervene if necessary.
The rollout of version 12.5 is expected to bring a significant improvement in the performance of supervised Full Self-Driving, according to Elon Musk. The "Actually Smart Summon" feature is set to have a wide release next week, while the "Dumb Summon" feature is already available.
A video of the autonomous software in use at a Costco parking lot was included in the announcement. A link to the Tesla announcement can be found at this link.
As Tesla continues to push the boundaries of autonomous driving technology, these new features mark an exciting step forward in the company's mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy.
