Tesla, the pioneering electric vehicle company, has taken a significant step in entering the Indian market by inaugurating its first Supercharger station in Mumbai on August 4, 2025 [1][3][4][5]. Located at One BKC, the Supercharger station is equipped with four V4 Supercharging stalls and four Destination Charging stalls, marking a crucial milestone in Tesla's expansion plan.

The Supercharger station is designed to cater to the needs of Tesla's initial vehicle offering in India, the redesigned Model Y. The Model Y, available in both standard RWD and Long Range RWD variants, is powered by a single electric motor producing roughly 295 hp [2]. The base model of the Model Y starts at ₹5,989,000 (around $68,700 USD), while the Long Range version starts at ₹6,789,000 (around $77,800 USD) [1].

One of the key advantages of the Model Y, especially at the newly launched Supercharger station in Mumbai, is its Supercharging capabilities. The Model Y can gain up to 267 km of range in just 15 minutes at the Supercharger station [2]. The charging rates for Supercharging are ₹24 ($0.28 USD) per kWh, while Destination Charging costs ₹11 ($0.13 USD) per kWh [1].

Tesla's Supercharger stalls can deliver up to 250 kW peak DC charging speeds, providing a rapid charging solution for Tesla owners. In comparison, Destination Charging stalls offer 11 kW AC charging [1].

The Supercharger station in Mumbai is strategically located, capable of charging five round trips between Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and the Gateway of India with a single charge [6].

In addition to the Supercharger station, Tesla is also expanding its showroom presence in India. The company recently opened its first showroom, known as a Tesla Experience Center, in Mumbai, and is preparing to open its second Experience Center in Delhi's Aerocity district later this month [2].

Tesla's entry into the Indian market is supported by the simultaneous rollout of charging infrastructure, with plans to deploy its V4 Superchargers ahead of vehicle deliveries. The company aims to deploy these Superchargers across multiple cities in Mumbai, including Thane, BKC, Lower Parel, and Navi Mumbai [1][2][3][4][5].

As Tesla continues to expand its presence in India, it is poised to revolutionise the electric vehicle market in the country, offering a sustainable and efficient driving experience to Indian consumers.
