Tesla formally introduces Model Y SUV in China, with deliveries commencing in September.

The Tesla Model Y Long Range (Model Y L) is an expanded and upgraded version of Tesla's popular electric SUV, offering a more spacious interior, improved technology, and extended range.

Interior Design and Tech Upgrades

The Model Y L boasts several enhancements to its interior, including a larger central touchscreen of 16 inches, providing a more immersive user interface. The rear passenger touchscreen remains at 8 inches, slightly smaller than those found in the Cybertruck or Model S/X.

The refreshed interior also features powered captain's chairs with ventilated and heated seats, electric powered armrests, and a configurable ambient light strip running through the cabin. In the 2025 refresh, a new touchscreen for rear passengers was introduced, along with an upgraded suspension system for enhanced comfort.

A three-row, seven-seater configuration was reintroduced in 2025, increasing passenger capacity. The Model Y L retains the traditional turn signal stalk, responding to customer feedback.

Performance

The Model Y L accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in approximately 4.5 seconds, slightly faster than the standard Model Y AWD version. Powertrain details suggest competitive power output, with the Model Y Long Range offering up to 331 kW (450 hp) and 493 Nm of torque. Top speed is around 201 km/h (125 mph) for the non-performance versions.

Range

Tesla lists the Model Y L with an official CLTC range of 751 km (approximately 467 miles), significantly higher than the prior WLTP or EPA ranges for the Model Y Long Range (331-568 km / 205-353 miles). The CLTC range is known to be more generous than EPA ratings, indicating a real-world range likely somewhat lower but still notably extended.

Specifications & Availability

The Model Y L offers seating configurations for five and seven passengers. Cargo capacity and towing capacity align with typical Model Y standards (about 30 cu.ft trunk, 72 cu.ft max, 3500 lb towing). The battery pack approximates around 75-80 kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion architecture with max DC fast charging at 250 kW.

The Model Y L launched in 2025 with availability in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, China, and Europe. Pricing from the 2025 refresh suggests a starting price around $60,000 for the advanced "Launch Series" edition incorporating Full Self-Driving capabilities.

Additional Features

The Model Y L features Tesla's second-generation suspension system with continuous variable damping for smoother rides. It is 8 inches longer than the refreshed five-seat Model Y, providing more space for adult passengers in the back seats.

The Model Y L includes technology upgrades like redesigned ventilated seats, adjustable under-thigh support, and headrests for the driver and front passenger. It supports 250 kW peak Supercharging for rapid charging on Tesla's growing China Supercharger network.

The third row of the Model Y L gains dedicated vents, heated seating, and cupholders, making it a more comfortable option for passengers in the back. The Model Y L also introduces air-cooled wireless phone chargers for the first time, with small vents under the charging pads to prevent overheating. The left charger now supports up to 50W speeds.

Overall, the Tesla Model Y L offers a larger, more luxurious, and tech-forward version of Tesla’s highly popular electric SUV line, with particular focus on enhanced range and interior comfort.
