Tesla Appoints Teresa Gutiérrez as CEO for Mexico, Paving the Way for Green Technology Expansion

Teresa Gutiérrez, a seasoned executive with a passion for innovation, social impact, and digital transformation, has been appointed as the CEO of Tesla in Mexico. Gutiérrez, who previously held the position of CEO at Colombian delivery service firm Rappi, replaces Françoise Lavertu, who led Tesla in Mexico since 2015.

The announcement of Gutiérrez's appointment was made without an official press release from Tesla. However, her LinkedIn profile highlights her commitment to driving sustainable technologies and electric vehicle adoption tailored to specific regional needs.

In March last year, Mexico's President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that Tesla would build a factory in Santa Catarina, Nuevo León. The new plant is expected to produce vehicles for the Mexican market and export them to countries in Latin America and Europe.

According to Martha Delgado, undersecretary for multilateral affairs and human rights at Mexico's foreign affairs ministry, the new plant is expected to produce about 1 million EVs each year.

Tesla is investing $5 billion in an initial phase to build its electric vehicle plant in Mexico. Gutiérrez's strategy emphasizes accelerating Tesla's growth in Mexico by adapting the company's electric vehicle and energy products to Latin America's market conditions. She also aims to promote sustainability through increased access to Tesla’s clean energy and electric transportation technologies.

Moreover, Gutiérrez intends to foster local innovation and talent development to support Tesla’s operations and mission regionally. While detailed strategic plans have not been fully published, her leadership reflects a commitment to integrating Tesla's global sustainability goals with local economic and cultural factors to boost Latin America’s transition to green technology.

Given Mexico's economic importance in the region, especially states like Nuevo León with strong industrial bases, Tesla under Gutiérrez's leadership is likely to tap into these strengths to expand manufacturing, sales, and infrastructure for electric mobility.
