Telegram Introduces On-Chain Stickers and Tip Feature for Creators
In a significant move for the blockchain industry, Telegram and the TON Foundation have announced a partnership at Token2049. This collaboration aims to attract more non-crypto native users to the world of Web3, creating a less volatile avenue for new crypto users to join the TON Network.
The partnership sees Telegram integrating USDT into its crypto wallet, a move that is expected to boost Telegram's crypto exposure significantly. Tether, a leading stablecoin issuer, will be part of this integration, further solidifying the partnership. However, the specific company that agreed to support USDT in Telegram's crypto wallet as part of the partnership with the TON Foundation remains unclear.
The integration of USDT into the Telegram crypto wallet also opens up opportunities for creators on the platform. Telegram prioritizes privacy and embraces emerging technologies that empower creators. With this partnership, creators will now be able to receive tips in Toncoin ($TON) and earn 95% of the revenue generated from the sale of their stickers, as Telegram brings its signature stickers on-chain.
Moreover, Telegram has announced that it will support in-app crypto purchases of digital goods, expanding earning opportunities for creators even further. Creators will receive 70% of tips and in-app sales of digital goods and services, providing a substantial income stream for those who create and share content on the platform.
The partnership also marks the integration of the TON Space self-custody wallet, which was barely a month after news that the platform was planning to launch NFT usernames. This integration is expected to make the platform more user-friendly and accessible, especially for those new to the world of blockchain.
Another significant aspect of the partnership is the rise of Anonymous Telegram numbers. Introduced in 2022, these numbers allow users to sign up without a regular phone number. In April, anonymous Telegram numbers experienced a spike, with more than $2.5 million in sales volume from over 3,700 different sales, averaging a daily high of $167,000.
Telegram has also announced the next evolution of its privacy-focused messaging platform, marking a step forward in its commitment to privacy and emerging technologies. With this partnership and its focus on privacy, Telegram is set to onboard hundreds of millions of users to the layer-1 blockchain, creating a more decentralized and inclusive digital economy.
