Telecom giant BSNL introduces eSIM with immediate activation and IoT compatibility, providing widespread availability and advantages in technological connections.
BSNL, one of India's leading telecom operators, has taken a significant stride in digital transformation. The company has launched an e-SIM service and an Anti-Spam and Anti-Smishing system to protect subscribers from fraudulent communications.
The e-SIM service, which was launched in Tamil Nadu on India's 79th Independence Day, eliminates the need for physical SIM cards. It offers a flexible, cost-effective solution for mobile users, providing instant activation, IoT-ready connectivity, and hassle-free usage on smartphones and wearables.
The Anti-Spam and Anti-Smishing system is designed to identify and block suspicious links in phishing messages before they reach users. It ensures secure delivery of critical communications such as OTPs, banking alerts, and government notifications.
BSNL's e-SIM service is open to both new and existing customers. To get a BSNL e-SIM, customers must carry an e-SIM-compatible device and a valid ID for digital Know-Your-Customer (KYC) verification. The process is complete when users receive a one-time QR code to download their e-SIM profile.
BSNL has confirmed plans to launch the e-SIM in other parts of the country soon, but the exact date is yet to be confirmed. The operator is testing eSIM services in Tamil Nadu and plans a nationwide rollout using its partnership with India Post. Through this partnership, SIM cards will be sold through 1.65 lakh post offices primarily in rural and semi-urban areas, making eSIM services available nationwide after initial testing in Tamil Nadu.
Customers wishing to switch to a BSNL e-SIM can visit BSNL's Customer Service Centres (CSC). The operator has yet to confirm whether migrating from a physical SIM to an e-SIM will require additional charges or be free of cost.
BSNL's e-SIM service is the latest addition to India's growing list of e-SIM providers. The company joins other private telecom companies like Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea in offering e-SIM services in India.
