Tech giant Salesforce to allocate $6 billion, positioning United Kingdom as its European AI headquarters.
Salesforce, a leading global company in customer relationship management (CRM), has announced a significant investment in its UK operations. The tech giant plans to inject $6 billion (£4.4bn) into its British operations by the end of the decade, reinforcing its commitment to the UK market.
This investment comes as part of a broader strategy to make the UK Salesforce's European AI hub. The UK, which is Salesforce's biggest market outside the United States, has been lauded by Zahra Bahrololoumi, the CEO of Salesforce UK & Ireland, for being a pioneer in driving global AI breakthroughs.
Salesforce Ventures, the investment arm of Salesforce, has already shown its support for the UK's tech scene by investing over $200 million in British companies, although the exact names of these startups remain unspecified in available search results. Notable investments include ElevenLabs and Climate X.
In addition to these investments, Salesforce has launched a London-based AI centre and established the UK Salesforce Accelerator, a £1m program designed to help nonprofits build and deploy AI agents. This initiative reflects the company's long-standing commitment to the UK, as stated by Marc Benioff, the chair and CEO of Salesforce.
The investment and the establishment of the UK Salesforce Accelerator are expected to generate substantial economic benefits for the UK. According to research from IDC, the 'Salesforce economy' could generate $41bn in economic benefits and create more than 500,000 jobs in the UK by 2028.
While Sky, a separate company, has announced plans to cut around 600 tech jobs across three sites, this development is not directly related to Salesforce's investment in the UK.
This investment builds on a $4bn pledge made by Salesforce in 2023, further solidifying Salesforce's position as a key player in the UK's tech industry and its commitment to driving AI innovation in the country.
