Target Names Prat Vemana as New Chief Digital and Product Officer
Target Corporation has appointed Prat Vemana as its new Chief Digital and Product Officer, effective October 31. Vemana will oversee the retailer's digital teams, including site merchandising, user experience, digital operations and product, and Target+.
Vemana brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He previously served as Senior Vice President and Chief Digital Officer at Kaiser Permanente. His background also includes stints at The Home Depot and Staples, demonstrating his retail industry knowledge. At Target, Vemana will report to Chief Guest Experience Officer Cara Sylvester.
Vemana takes the helm as digital continues to be a significant growth driver for Target. In Q2 2022, digital accounted for 20% of the company's business, up from 7% in Q2 2019. Same-day services, such as Pick Up, Drive Up, and Shipt, grew by 273% in Q2 2020 due to the pandemic. CEO Brian Cornell anticipates Vemana's leadership will further boost this growth.
Despite a recent 87% year-over-year decrease in operating income due to inventory adjustments and demand shifts, Target remains optimistic about its digital future. With Prat Vemana at the helm of its digital operations, the retailer aims to continue expanding its digital business and enhancing the guest experience.
