T-bank encounters an operational flaw

Hittin' a SnagIt looks like complaints are stacking up to an impressive 80 these days. As per Downdetector, the outages in the past hour have jumped to a whopping 212.

From the butchers in Moscow (32%) to the salt merchants in Saint Petersburg (19%), and even the grain dealers in Tatarstan (8%), it's a tough time for our bank's operation. Residents of Chelyabinsk, Novosibirsk, Sverdlovsk, Omsk, Rostov, and Samara regions, as well as the Krasnodar Krai, have also experienced some trouble. But what's causing this outage, you ask? The culprit still remains a mystery.

Remember the old days when we used to get frustrated with MTS's service disruptions? Well, it seems we've been reliving that nightmare. Within half an hour, 117 complaints about outages flood in, mainly from furious folks in Mordovia, Moscow, and Astrakhan Oblast. Users were up in arms about the absence of internet and mobile connection.

Take a step back to a less peaceful time. Yes, we're talking about Telegram's massive outage in April last year. At around 8:30 PM Moscow time, over five thousand complaints flooded in. The main complainants were from Uzbekistan (14%), Crimea (7%), Nizhny Novgorod (7%), Chelyabinsk (6%), and Moscow regions (6%). More than half of the complaints were about the mobile app, with users grumbling about notification and website issues too.

A side note:Recent outages affecting digital services like T-Bank, MTS, and Telegram seem to be connected to one of Russia's largest internet disruptions in January 2025. During that incident, hundreds of websites and apps, including major banks, social media platforms, and e-commerce services, faced downtime for hours due to a technical failure in the DNS protocol[5].

While the specific term "T-Bank" isn't explicitly mentioned in reports, the outage appears to have impacted financial institutions, telecom providers like MTS, and platforms such as Telegram[5]. Russia’s digital ministry attributed the disruption to issues with DNS protocol extensions, with experts suggesting it may relate to the ongoing push for internet sovereignty[5].

No further outages for these services are reported beyond the January 2025 incident. Recent updates mention a power grid failure in southern Russia back in July 2024, but that seems unrelated to the January internet outage[3].
