In a developing crime case, a second suspect, a 33-year-old U.S. resident from Miami, has been apprehended by authorities. The individual is alleged to have been in cahoots with an accomplice, who was arrested last Friday, to kidnap a 28-year-old Italian man for multiple weeks, with the intention of extorting access to his Bitcoin accounts.

According to police reports, the victim was held against his will, and his passport and electronic devices were taken. When the victim refused to disclose his account details, the two kidnappers reportedly threatened him, inflicting physical harm and using a weapon, while warning of further torture, including the use of a chainsaw.

The alleged assailants allegedly forced the victim to bring them to the fifth floor of the building, threatening to hurl him down if he did not reveal his passwords. They also threatened his family's life.

This kidnapping case marks another instance of crypto-related crime, a rising trend that has surfaced globally. While specific data regarding the prevalence of such crimes in Miami is scarce, there have been notification of similar incidents worldwide and in the U.S. Notable cases include the alleged kidnapping and torture of an Italian man in New York City for his bitcoin fortune.
