Surinam is set to join the ranks of over 140 states and non-state organisations worldwide that issue electronic passports (ePassports), as the government has signed a contract with the Austrian company OeSD International GmbH and its partner, Vlatacom Research and Development Institute, for the production of Surinam's new biometric security passports.

The new ePassport generation will feature a range of innovative security features, including a state-of-the-art polycarbonate data page and RFID chips that store critical personal and biometric data, such as facial features and fingerprints. The registration process for the new ePassports will be conducted online, with a personal appointment for biometric enrollment available after the launch.

OeSD, a recognised and certified high-security company with 220 years of experience in modern digital ID solutions, reinforces its position as a reliable and efficient partner for states worldwide with this contract. Claudia Schwendimann, CEO of OeSD, expressed pride in being the supplier of Surinam's new generation of modern ePassports.

The partnership between OeSD and Vlatacom will leverage Surinam's existing eID infrastructure, ensuring a smooth transition to the new passport generation. Vlatacom, located in Paramaribo, will work alongside OeSD to deliver Surinam's citizens with one of the most modern travel documents worldwide.

With the introduction of the new ePassports, Surinam's travel documents will meet all future International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) requirements and include advanced encryption protocols to ensure the secure storage and transmission of biometric data.

Citizens of Surinam will be able to register for the new ePassports online, and the online registration system will include a biometric enrollment process. Official sources or announcements from the relevant authorities or producers should be consulted for precise details about Surinam's ePassport.

The launch of Surinam's new passport generation is planned, and Surinam joins the growing group of countries that prioritise security and innovation in their travel documents.
