Streetlight failures persist after just three years of operation for LED installations.
In the small town of Wesenberg, residents have been left in the dark for several days due to a failure in the LED street lighting system. The affected streets include Am Hang, Woblitzweg, Am Hoben, Quassower Weg, and the settlement.
The LED street lighting conversion, which took place in September 2022, involved 272 lamps and was carried out for energy efficiency reasons. However, since the start of the week, the lights have been flickering before completely going out. This has left the town partially shrouded in darkness.
The company Elektro-Wilhelm from Wesenberg is working to fix the technical fault, but the cause of the failure remains unclear. The supplier of the LED street lighting in Wesenberg is NimBus GmbH.
According to Peter Vorwerk, responsible for street and object maintenance, the streetlight outage has been ongoing for several days. Some of the lamp bodies in Wesenberg are 30 years old, as confirmed by Mayor Steffen Rißmann. Despite the LED lighting being only three years old, it has failed unexpectedly.
Mayor Rißmann, a member of the CDU party, expressed his concern over the situation, stating that the outage has affected multiple streets and left residents relying on flashlights. The town council is currently investigating the cause of the failure and is working to find a solution as soon as possible.
The cost of converting to the modern LED technology was 35,000 euros. Despite this investment, the town is now facing additional costs to repair or replace the faulty equipment. The town council is yet to provide any information about who is responsible for the current technical fault.
Residents of Wesenberg are urged to exercise caution during the night and to use flashlights when necessary. The town council apologises for any inconvenience caused and assures the public that they are doing everything in their power to restore the street lighting as soon as possible.
