Social Media Platform X Experiences Ongoing Outage for Users in Canada and U.S.
Reports of access difficulties emerged on Saturday morning among users of the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), as documented by third-party website Downdetector.
As of 8:55 a.m. Eastern Time, Downdetector recorded over 2,200 incidents among Canadian users and more than 25,000 reports from U.S. users facing issues with the platform. This latest disruption adds to the ongoing problems that began with a suspected data centre fire in Hillsboro, Oregon, on Thursday, May 22, 2025. The data centre in question is leased by X[1][2][3].
Although some services have been restored, the platform has yet to return to full operational capacity as of Saturday, May 24, 2025. Downdetector's user complaints continued to escalate on Saturday, signaling ongoing issues with the social media platform[3].
The outage has affected users of the site both on desktop and mobile devices. The root cause of the disruption remains under investigation.
