Santander and Amazon strike a deal in Austria, offering an Amazon Visa credit card with purchase rewards and waiving any annual fees for customers.
Amazon Visa, the popular credit card offered by e-commerce giant Amazon, is now available to customers in Austria. This announcement was made by Rocco Braüninger, Country Manager of Amazon Germany, and Ramón Billordo, Head of Zinia, the consumer finance platform by Grupo Santander that issues the Amazon Visa card.
The new offering allows Amazon.de customers in Austria to manage their Amazon Visa account through the Amazon Visa mobile app and desktop version, providing a seamless banking experience.
Prime members in Austria stand to benefit from extra rewards on Amazon Visa spending on Amazon.de, which can include exclusive deals during Prime Day. Non-Prime members will still earn 1% back in points for purchases on Amazon.de and 0.5% for other purchases. New Amazon Visa customers, whether Prime members or not, will receive a sign-up bonus that will be credited to their first Amazon Visa monthly statement. The bonus amounts to €15 for Prime members and €10 for non-Prime members.
The Amazon Visa credit card has no annual fee, and the rewards earned can be tracked and redeemed via the Amazon Visa app. Customers do not need to open a new bank account to get the Amazon Visa credit card.
While there is currently no Amazon Visa credit card specifically issued for Austrian residents, the card is widely accepted in Austria, including contactless and chip-and-PIN payments, which are standard there. When using credit cards abroad, including for Amazon purchases, fees like foreign transaction fees may apply. Choosing a card with commission-free currency conversion is advisable.
For purchasing on various Amazon international sites, using a credit card that offers favourable exchange rates and minimal fees, such as the Wise Multi-Currency Card, can help minimise extra costs. Amazon also offers a currency converter service that can show exact exchange rates at checkout, but its rates may or may not be better than your bank’s.
In summary, while the Amazon Visa card does not offer specific rewards or sign-up bonuses tailored to Austria, Austrian residents can still leverage widely accepted Visa cards for Amazon purchases. To optimise their spending abroad, they should look for cards with low foreign transaction fees and good currency conversion features.
