Samsung's supposed Galaxy S25 Slim smartphone is tipped to be unleashed on 22nd January 2025, according to recent leaks
The tech world is abuzz with anticipation as Samsung prepares to unveil its latest offering, the Galaxy S25 Slim. Contrary to earlier rumours, it seems this new addition will launch alongside the rest of the S25 series.
The Galaxy S25 Slim, much like its counterparts, is expected to prioritise a slimmer, lighter design. This is achieved through the adoption of a flexible OLED screen and an upgraded "Armor Aluminum" chassis, resulting in a thickness of approximately 7.25 millimeters. This design innovation, however, has sparked some controversy, with critics questioning its potential durability, reminiscent of the iPhone's Bendgate incident.
The S25 Slim will boast a 6.7-inch AMOLED display, featuring LTPO technology for power efficiency. This technology allows for a dynamic refresh rate, ranging from 1 Hz to 120 Hz, helping to conserve battery life while maintaining Full HD+ resolution and Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection.
In terms of performance, the S25 Slim is rumoured to use either the Snapdragon 8 Elite or Exynos 2400 chipset, depending on the region. While the Exynos 2400 is said not to significantly improve performance over previous versions, the S25 Slim will still offer flagship-level performance.
Battery life is a concern for some, as the S25 Slim might feature a slightly larger battery of 4,900 mAh, with 45W charging support. This is a 200 mAh increase compared to its predecessor. However, it appears that Samsung may have sacrificed some battery capacity in favour of a thinner design, with battery life being noted as potentially acceptable for light users.
The S25 Slim will also feature a high-resolution camera setup. The selfie camera will be upgraded to a 12 MP sensor, possibly with autofocus, similar to the Galaxy S25 standard model. The rear camera setup is yet to be confirmed, but leaks suggest it may be similar to the S25 Edge, which offers a dual rear camera setup with a 200 MP main sensor and a 12 MP ultra-wide lens.
Other anticipated features include smaller bezels and energy savings due to the use of flexible OLED panels and the LTPO backplane technology.
The Galaxy S25 Slim is expected to launch with One UI 7, based on Android 15. It is also anticipated to support the Qi2 wireless charging standard, enabling up to 15W wireless charging.
As with all leaks and rumours, it's important to note that these details should be considered unofficial until Samsung's official announcement.
In Africa, Samsung's Galaxy S25 Slim is expected to be available with the Exynos chipset, as has been the case in the past. Interestingly, Zimbabweans have shown a preference for the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra over the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
With its sleek design, advanced features, and power efficiency, the Galaxy S25 Slim promises to be an exciting addition to Samsung's portfolio. However, only time will tell if the potential compromises in battery life and performance improvements, especially with the Exynos 2400, will be a concern for consumers.
