Samsung's One UI 8.5 Brings AI Notification Summaries
Samsung is set to introduce AI-powered notification summaries in its upcoming One UI 8.5 update. The feature, first rumoured in One UI 7, will provide quick recaps for lengthy notifications. Users can expect this in the next Galaxy S series, possibly the S26 next year.
The AI summaries will be suggested or invoked for long notifications, helping users stay informed quickly. Samsung is also considering allowing users to exclude certain apps from this feature via a 'Manage apps' menu. The tech giant has created a dedicated 'Notification Summaries' page for users to toggle the feature on or off, acknowledging that the AI may sometimes make mistakes.
Google and Cisco are also exploring AI-based conversation and notification summaries. Google is looking into this for Android 16, while Cisco is developing it for their future system updates, particularly for their Webex platform with AI meeting summaries and assistants.
The AI notification summaries, first seen in rumours for One UI 7, are now confirmed for One UI 8.5. Users can expect this feature in the next Galaxy S series, along with other extensive updates. While the AI may not always be perfect, users will have control over the feature through a dedicated settings page.
