Ronbay Technology, a multinational high-tech company specialising in new energy materials, and Rock Tech Lithium, a German-Canadian cleantech company developing lithium refining capacity in Europe, have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on establishing a fully localised, integrated supply chain for battery materials in Europe.

The partnership aims to create a localised integrated lithium-ion battery materials supply chain, accelerating the localisation of raw materials for Ronbay's European project and further strengthening Ronbay's presence in the European market.

Rock Tech Lithium will supply battery-grade lithium hydroxide from its lithium converter facility, located at the German-Polish border in Guben, Germany, to Ronbay’s cathode material production facilities in Europe. This facility, set to become Europe’s first commercial-scale lithium hydroxide refinery, is expected to produce 24,000 tonnes of lithium hydroxide annually, sufficient to supply materials for approximately 500,000 electric vehicles per year.

Ronbay will provide technical resources and potential investment to support the development and expansion of Rock Tech’s Guben lithium converter project, ensuring the continuity and acceleration of the converter’s construction and operation.

The partnership leverages Rock Tech’s operations in Germany and Ronbay’s Cathode Active Material (CAM) facility in Poland, creating a strategic cross-border battery materials corridor that directly links raw material processing with cathode material production.

Both companies will collaborate on market development activities, including Ronbay’s European offtake commitments and joint efforts to acquire customers within the battery and automotive sectors in Europe. This collaboration is positioned to significantly boost Europe’s self-sufficiency in critical battery materials for the growing electric vehicle market.

The strategic partnership is described as a strategic alignment aimed at building a resilient and efficient battery value chain in Europe. The partnership will explore several strategic initiatives, including potential joint investment opportunities in the Guben facility.

The Head of Supply Chain at Ronbay considers the partnership with Rock Tech as a pivotal step in Ronbay's global strategy, as the two companies work together towards a clean energy future.

The partnership between Ronbay Technology and Rock Tech Lithium, driven by technology and strategic alignment, aims to establish a resilient and efficient battery value chain in Europe, ultimately boosting Europe's self-sufficiency in critical battery materials for the growing electric vehicle market.

Ronbay Technology will leverage technology by providing technical resources and potential investment to support the development and expansion of Rock Tech’s Guben lithium converter project, while Rock Tech Lithium will supply battery-grade lithium hydroxide from its technology-driven facility in Germany to Ronbay’s cathode material production facilities in Europe.
