Revolutionary 'LIMA' Project to Transform Lithium Metal Anode Production
The 'LIMA' project, under the EXIST program, is poised to revolutionize lithium metal anode production. Led by the Chair of Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components (PEM) at RWTH Aachen, the project aims to create a spin-off company, 'LIMA', to commercialize a novel liquid coating technology.
The 'LIMA' approach targets direct processing of lithium from the molten state, eliminating multi-stage rolling and reducing material loss. This innovative method enables controlled coating of lyotropic liquid crystalline mesophases, potentially simplifying production and enhancing electrode quality. The project's goal is to apply liquid lithium precisely onto a substrate foil, creating ultra-thin anode foils with consistent layer thickness and reduced material consumption.
The research team behind the technology plans to found the 'LIMA' spin-off company. This venture will focus on further developing the technology and preparing it for industrial applications, ultimately transferring the process into an economically viable production solution.
The 'LIMA' project, with its groundbreaking liquid coating process, promises to streamline lithium metal anode production. The planned spin-off company, 'LIMA', will drive this technology's transition into practical, cost-effective, and efficient industrial use.
