Return of a storied classic: After 20 years, Gibson is reviving the Custom Les Paul '70s as a standard USA production model

The iconic Les Paul Custom '70s has made a long-awaited return to Gibson's standard line-up, bringing back a classic that has been cherished by guitarists for decades. First introduced in the 1970s, the Les Paul Custom '70s built upon Les Paul's solidbody electric guitar design, becoming a favourite among heavy metal pioneers and hard-rock icons of the era. Randy Rhoads and The Edge are just a few of the notable guitarists who have embraced this bespoke model. The new Les Paul Custom '70s retains the classic-era correct specs, featuring a mahogany body with a three-piece maple top, a '70s profile maple neck, and an ebony fingerboard adorned with mother-of-pearl block inlays. The headstock boasts a mother-of-pearl Custom Split Diamond headstock inlay. The Les Paul Custom '70s offers four gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finishes: Ebony, Tobacco Burst, Wine Red, and a Buttercream Top version. It is equipped with a five-ply top binding, three-ply back binding, 22 medium jumbo frets, a GraphTech nut, and a 24.75" scale. For added convenience, the guitar comes complete with diamond-shaped Posi-Lok strap locks. The Aluminum Nashville Tune-O-Matic bridge and Stop Bar combo, Grover Rotomatic tuners with Keystone buttons, and Calibrated T-Type humbuckers hand-wired to Orange Drop capacitors ensure a smooth and reliable playing experience. The Les Paul Custom '70s stands out with its Witch Hat knobs and a black washer with gold text for its three-way pickup selector 'poker chip'. This iconic guitar is priced at $3,999 apiece, making it more affordable than its vintage and Custom Shop counterparts. Gibson is thrilled to reintroduce this legendary guitar, now available in its Standard series after a 20-year absence. For more information, head to Gibson's official website. For those seeking more old-school Gibson goodness, the latest Certified Vintage drop and Marcus King's signature ES-345 are worth checking out. The new Les Paul Custom '70s is the first standard-run USA guitar of its kind in 20 years, making it a must-have for any guitar enthusiast. After being initially only available as a Gibson Custom model, carrying price tags of up to $8,000, this classic is now more accessible to a wider audience.
