Reorganization of Kazakhstan's Digital Ministry Takes Place
New Ministry for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Established
In a significant move, a new Ministry for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development was created on September 18, 2021. The ministry, led by Minister Karsten Wildberger, was established in response to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's call to accelerate the adoption of a Digital Code.
The new ministry will primarily focus on artificial intelligence and digital development, as indicated by its name. It will inherit the rights and obligations of its predecessor, the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education will take over functions related to innovation, as previously held by the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development. The Ministry of Science and Higher Education will also serve as a legal successor to the new Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, along with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
The transformation of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry into the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development took place on the same day. The Akorda press service reported the details of the ministries serving as legal successors and the redistributed competencies. President Tokayev signed a decree on September 18, formalising the changes.
The new ministry will be responsible for functions related to innovation, as previously held by the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry. It will continue to work towards promoting innovation and digital development in the country.
This reorganisation is expected to streamline the government's approach to innovation and digital development, focusing resources and efforts on specific areas. The new ministry will play a crucial role in Kazakhstan's digital future, driving progress and innovation in artificial intelligence and digital development.
