The FBI has awarded a $129.7 million contract to Leidos to support its criminal justice biometric services program. The contract, spanning over five and a half years, will focus on enhancing and modernizing the FBI's biometric identification capabilities.

Under the terms of the contract, Leidos will work closely with the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division to ensure the advancement of biometric technologies. This collaboration encompasses state, local, federal, and tribal authorities.

A key aspect of the contract involves the next-generation identification (NGI) system. Leidos has been working with CJIS since 2018 to develop and integrate NGI, a cutting-edge biometric identification system designed to offer advanced features like the Repository for Individuals of Special Concern and Rap Back, which provides real-time notifications of criminal activity related to individuals holding public trust positions.

Leidos has successfully employed agile methodology and development operations concepts in the software build process, fostering a collaborative atmosphere between Leidos and CJIS teams. The two entities have also maintained a robust working relationship for nearly two years.

This contract signifies a significant stride in the FBI's modernization efforts, enabling the agency to harness biometric data more effectively for law enforcement purposes. Additionally, it solidifies Leidos' standing as a crucial partner in federal law enforcement technology, complementing other recent contracts in the sector.
