Preparation Underway for Martin Professional Performance at the Royal Opera House
The Royal Opera House, one of the most prestigious opera houses in the world, located in Covent Garden, has recently undergone a significant upgrade in its lighting system. The new installation, courtesy of Martin Professional, has been implemented across all three main spaces: the main stage, the Linbury Studio Theatre, and Clore Studio.
At the heart of this transformation are the MAC Viper Performance Moving Lights, which have been installed alongside MAC Aura LED Wash Lights. These advanced lights are renowned for their exceptional brightness and color quality, precision and versatility in movement, advanced beam shaping and effects, reliability and durability, and integration capability.
The MAC Viper Performance offers a high-output light source and a wide color gamut, essential for illuminating large stages with rich, vibrant colors, enhancing the visual impact of operatic performances. With smooth, precise pan and tilt control, they enable dynamic lighting effects and seamless scene changes that complement the drama on stage. Features like iris, zoom, gobos, prisms, and frost filters allow lighting designers to create intricate textures and moods tailored to each production.
Designed for demanding professional use, the MAC Viper Performance Moving Lights can withstand the rigors of frequent performances while maintaining consistent output and performance. They also support modern lighting control protocols and can be easily integrated into complex lighting rigs and show control systems used in opera houses.
Paul Hornby, the lighting systems manager at the Royal Opera House for the last 14 years, is more than impressed with the MAC Viper Performance Moving Lights. He selected the MAC Aura LED Wash Lights due to the limited space in the opera house, which are discreet, quiet, and capable of producing the quality light needed for the Royal Opera House's performances.
The MAC Aura LED Wash Lights are used in addition to the main rig and show lighting bars in the Royal Opera House. The total audience for the Royal Opera House's performances is approximately 650,000, and each year, the Royal Opera House hosts over 400 performances, with a new show every ten days on the main stage. The rig at the Royal Opera House works for 15 hours a day, seven days a week.
Since August 2013, only one MAC Aura LED Wash Light has required maintenance, a testament to their reliability and durability. The first Martin Professional lights were installed in the Royal Opera House in 2004, and the Royal Opera House has relied on lighting experts from Martin Professional for the past decade.
With the installation of these new Martin Professional lights, the Royal Opera House continues to push the boundaries of artistic expression, offering audiences an unparalleled experience of operatic performances.
The installation of the MAC Viper Performance Moving Lights and MAC Aura LED Wash Lights, part of the significant upgrade in technology at the Royal Opera House, offers a new level of brightness, color quality, and versatility in lighting effects, enhancing the visual impact of operatic performances. These advanced lights, renowned for their reliability and durability, enable dynamic lighting effects, seamless scene changes, and intricate textures tailored to each production.
