Portuguese Corporate Entity Diverting Funds into Gazelle Wind Energy, Subsidiary to Fabricate Steel Infrastructure for Floating Wind Experiment Venture
The Portuguese business group, dstgroup, has made a strategic investment in Gazelle Wind Power, a move that is set to advance the Nau Azul project, a validation of Gazelle's floating wind platform. This project, located off the coast of Aguçadoura, Portugal, aims to demonstrate the feasibility and efficiency of Gazelle's innovative technology in real-world conditions.
Gazelle's floating platform features a unique geometry and counterweight system, designed to significantly reduce steel usage while providing high stability. This design also facilitates easy transportation, installation, and maintenance, and minimizes environmental impact on marine ecosystems. The platform is structurally sized for harsh offshore conditions in Portugal and is designed to support wind turbines of over 15 MW.
The Nau Azul project is a 2-MW demonstrator, testing Gazelle's floating wind technology in a live environment. The project has received a strategic investment of €1.5 million from dstgroup, which, along with additional funding, will help to advance the project's development.
Gazelle Wind Power recently obtained a TUPEM (Título de Utilização Privativa do Espaço Marítimo) authorization valid for 10 years, paving the way for the implementation of the Nau Azul project. The upcoming stages will focus on the construction and installation of the floating wind platform, with the goal of demonstrating its effectiveness in a real-world setting.
The Nau Azul project is expected to create new job opportunities along the local supply chain, contributing to the regional economy. This project is crucial for validating Gazelle's technology and positioning it as a reference in the floating offshore wind sector.
The partnership between Gazelle Wind Power and dstgroup is a pivotal step in accelerating the commercialization of floating wind systems across Iberia. dstgroup's steel engineering and manufacturing subsidiary, bysteel, will fabricate and construct the modular steel structures for Gazelle's Nau Azul floating wind demonstration project.
This investment from dstgroup does not include any advertisements, as it is purely aimed at advancing the energy transition. The investment aligns with dstgroup's strategy of advancing the energy transition, as stated by José Teixeira, Chairman of dstgroup.
The Nau Azul project is a significant step forward in Portugal's leadership in offshore renewable energy innovation. In April this year, Gazelle was issued a 10-year permit by Portugal's Directorate-General for Natural Resources, Safety and Maritime Services (DGRM) for its floating wind demonstrator project. In May, Gazelle secured further EUR 2 million through an investment closed with Banco Português de Fomento (BPF) via the Deal-by-Deal Co-Investment Programme, in partnership with Indico Capital Partners.
