Police Crackdown on E-Micro-Vehicles: 55 Violations in Herford District
On Monday, September 29, 2025, the police in Herford and Bünde conducted a district-wide targeted inspection of electric micro-vehicles. The operation, led by Stefan Hilbrig, head of the traffic division at the Kreispolizeibehörde Herford, uncovered numerous violations.
Out of 70 vehicles inspected, a staggering 55 violations were found. Ten vehicle users were caught riding against the prescribed direction on bike paths. In two cases, e-scooters were operated by children under 14, a clear breach of safety regulations. Seven instances involved two people sharing an e-scooter, another prohibited practice. Additionally, one driver was using a smartphone while driving, a dangerous distraction.
Unauthorized use of traffic areas was cited 30 times. Insurance was missing for five vehicles, leaving those riders vulnerable and unprotected in case of accidents. The police also seized an e-scooter due to safety concerns, as it lacked essential lighting and reflectors.
The police in the Herford district are committed to improving traffic safety and preventing accidents involving electric micro-vehicles. Unexpected targeted inspections will continue in the future, ensuring riders adhere to regulations. Stefan Hilbrig, the officer in charge, urges all users to follow the rules and prioritise safety. With 55 violations found, the message is clear: responsible riding is crucial to keep our roads safe.
