Operation 404 Blocks 184 Music Piracy Sites in Paraguay, Brazil, and Peru
Operation 404, a global anti-piracy campaign backed by IFPI, has concluded its seventh round. This time, it targeted illegal music stream-ripping sites and apps in Paraguay, Brazil, and Peru. The operation, led by IFPI and local authorities, blocked a total of 184 sites and apps, including the top six in Paraguay and the top three in Brazil.
The operation's reach extended to Paraguay for the first time, with local authorities DINAPI and the prosecutor's office collaborating to block the top six stream-ripping sites. These sites had a combined 31 million visits in the last year. Peru, a regular participant, blocked 181 sites and three mobile apps in this round.
In Brazil, Operation 404 targeted the top three most popular music stream-ripping mobile apps, with over 7.5 million active users. The action was carried out in collaboration with Pro-Música Brasil, the Brazilian Ministry of Justice and Public Security, and local law enforcement.
Victoria Oakley, CEO of IFPI, praised the operation's progress and reach across Latin America. The seventh round of Operation 404 demonstrates the campaign's international collaboration, with support from the US, UK, and EU intellectual property offices, as well as local authorities in the targeted countries.
