Opel unveils plans for an electric research project set to debut at IAA Mobility 2025
Opel is set to premiere a new concept vehicle at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, from September 8 to 14. The vehicle, named the Opel Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo, is a high-performance, fully electric sports car concept that embodies the refreshed GSE sub-brand's vision.
The Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo features a racing-inspired design with a lightweight driver’s seat, roll cage, and a futuristic yoke steering wheel inside a detoxed racing cockpit that emphasizes driver focus. The exterior showcases an aerodynamic design with silver paint and lime yellow accents, including wheels inspired by the 1980s Manta 400 rally car. Lighting follows the latest Opel Compass signature with vertical and horizontal LED strips framing illuminated emblems.
Under the hood, the concept uses two 350 kW electric motors delivering significant power, integrated on the STLA Small platform that offers the footprint of a Corsa but with lower and wider sporty proportions. This setup previews the styling and technology expected in upcoming production high-performance Opel EVs under the GSE sub-brand, indicating a strong link to Opel’s motorsport heritage and dynamic future in electrification.
The connection to the GSE sub-brand is strong: this concept is described as the "epitome" of Opel’s highly dynamic GSE line, combining sporty design cues with the iconic Corsa nameplate. It continues Opel's tradition of concept innovation and prominently links the brand to the gaming community by also appearing playable in Gran Turismo 7. The car focuses on delivering a pure driver's experience with new safety tech such as blind-spot alerts via illuminated fabrics in the cockpit, projecting an advanced, race-inspired yet futuristic electric vehicle vision.
The design of the Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo is expected to be a significant factor in captivating automotive enthusiasts. It boasts a minimalist, lightweight driver's seat and the Opel Vizor face. The images of the new concept vehicle have already been revealed, hinting at its design.
Opel CEO Florian Huettl mentioned that more details about the new concept vehicle will be revealed soon. The upcoming models hinted at in the study are expected to be part of Opel's lineup. The new concept vehicle is not explicitly mentioned to focus on battery-electric top performance, but the GSE logo on the steering wheel suggests it might.
In summary, the Opel Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo is a high-performance, fully electric sports car concept that promises to push the boundaries of battery-electric performance and continue Opel's motorsport heritage and dynamic future in electrification. It is expected to captivate automotive enthusiasts worldwide with its breathtaking design and race-inspired yet futuristic electric vehicle vision.
